I give her a blank look…and ask what do you mean by the CMA’s? She gives me a look as if i’m mentally deranged, and says “you know, the Country Music Awards?”

  • Team Durcan – Triathlon winners!

Rose and I completed our first triathlon, and I think we’re hooked. Ok we didn’t win, but man we had fun.

    Lessons learned

    1. socks are super important. I got a pair of the Nike running socks. Holy crap…totally worth it. they are the dry fit type with extra padding in certain locations. Didn’t have any blisters or foot issues after the race.

    2. You need to get to a race at least an hour early to stretch out and prep your transition area. We got to the race basically right before the race started…which meant…I didn’t get to stretch out properly, or set my transition area up properly

    3. I need to practice swimming more. Swimming in the ocean was a lot harder than I thought. My energy was completely spent when I finished the swim.

    4. If you race with a mountain bike expect to be slower and more tired.. More tire and tread equals more friction. So you have to pedal more and harder to keep the same speed as those riding road bikes with skinny tires. Needless to say I was getting passed left and right, and was tired as crap when I finished the 10 miles.

(these stats only show purchasing habits for the past 3 months, but still interesting)

anywho, looking at awstats on my own personal website (which doesn’t get a lot of traffic), I find it interesting that it almost matches what the stats are saying in terms of OS marketshare. I also posted website OS stats from a year before. This looks like clear evidence that apple’s marketing is working (I just got a macpro for work)

Another thing I noticed is that I seem to be getting less traffic this year than last. lol I’m not taking enough photos to drive traffic to my website these days. Either that, or I guess I’ve been using Flickr more so the traffic isn’t showing.

  • 4.5 quake rattles L.A. – Los Angeles Times

Just went through my first Earthquake in California early this morning. I woke up with the bed shaking and the window blinds making lots of noise. I got up and looked out and saw lots of other people looking around to see what’s going on.

He told a great story about when he was young and worked in the restaurant in Rumson, NJ called Hook, line & Sinker.

Despite he’s loaded…He drove away in a Ford explorer. lol

  • I’m running a Triathlon

This is what Rose and I are going to look like in October. j/k

I was sitting at work griping over the mountain of work I have, and saw an email about the Yahoo Triathlon team. I decided I need to help my mental health by working on my physical health.

There were still a few extra spots available and Rose and I joined the team! We purchased new bikes, and started to train! We are going to be some mean, green, fighting machines.

  • 10 ways to get a grip on your e-mail – CNN.com

I work for Yahoo. People here have a serious problem with responding to emails. I think the biggest problem is the sheer volume of email that people receive. I also believe that they do not filter their mail effectively to deal with the volume.
Between work, personal, and automated alerts I probably get around 5000 a day. Despite the volume I think I manage my inbox fairly well. Here’s how you can organize your mail.

    1. absolutely keep work and personal email separate. If you change jobs you never have to worry about updating a million people your new email address. If you can’t check personal email at work, then don’t do it. 😉 Trust me on this one. I used to manage email systems, and have been contacted by managers to give access to their employees inbox to see if they are using it for personal use too much.

    2. create mail rules to filter your mail to certain folders (spam, colleagues, type, etc)

    3. Besides your work account, you will need 2 more email accounts. One you only give out to friends and family. The other account for buying stuff online, email subscriptions lists, myspace, junk-email, etc. Think of it as your private and public email accounts.

Here are some other great ways to clean up your inbox:
